Developed by Tim Fisher specifically for painting with pastels. The paper has no surface pattern, which can otherwise show through, on your painting, and it will take layer after layer of pastel. Suitable for both fine, detailed work and also for more impressionistic painting. It is also very good for mixed media. His revolutionary surface has proved popular with both professional and amateur painters.
Paper coated with a fine abrasive grit, for pastel work. Only available in buff color , but can be tinted with inks, acrylics or watercolors.
Used by professional artists worldwide

I'm relatively new to the pastel world and have been struggling with my work....until I purchased this paper!!! Every project has a much more professional look and sometimes I look at my art and say... "I did that"!!!!??? I will never use another type of paper again!

After hearing about Fisher 400 and trying it, I no longer use any other surface. The texture is wonderful for both detailed and impressionistic work and hold more pastel than any other surface I've tried. Although tough, it has a smooth grit and does not show lines like other surfaces I have used. It takes plenty of punishment even when I use a still bristle brush to take off layers of paint. I now found a foam brush works well too. Lately I do a dry underpainting and have been happy with the way Fisher 400 responds to that. My work has improved with this surface.

I read about Fisher 400 and since I have never been 100 percent satisfied with any other surface, I thought I would try it. The texture is perfect. It is not too coarse and offers a tight grit with no pattern. Yet the paper holds a huge amount of soft pastel. It does not grab the pastel like some other papers and I am able to better control the application of both harder and softer pastels. Alcohol works well with the paper. Needless to say, I love it! My only regret is that I did not order more.
